Is it possible that you have a speaker problem ie, perhaps a blown woofer(s)? or perhaps an EQ problem? (if so equipped) In general, an amplifier failure results in no audio or distorted audio--not frequency related.

High notes are handled by tweeter while mid to low's are handled by the woofer speaker(s)

My stereo (old toshiba/aurex components) is only outputting higher frequencies. It doesn't sound muffled or distorted, the lower frequencies are just cut. This is following a usage in which it the volume was quite high.

Is this likely to be a fuse in the amp? If so, how difficult would it be to repair?

Thank you.
