Most of the newer TV's use the flyback to generate all power supplies for the set. The fact that you still have sound tells me that the problem is likely related to the CRT or the CRT neck driver board. If the picture slowly went black, the heater element is gone. If you got a bright flash and then the picture went out, one of the guns might have shorted. |

Probably the flyback is bad #262341. |

I was watching a movie on my RCA 27r410t and the picture went purple and crazy for a few seconds, then disappeared, never to return. It still gets sound through the input just fine, though the picture has never come back on since then.
I've been looking around for a service manual before I take it apart, but I was wondering if anyone had seen something like this before, and could perhaps suggest a place to start looking for problems?
