I am afraid you will not find any passive cable that will do that. Of course the able company does the conversion by means of an active device--not just a cable.
Here is a good explanation of their converter with an additional 720p support

Cheap a@@ computer. The VGA to HDMI will work if the video card supports it. The problem is there's people selling cables for everything. VGA out does not support audio. I used a 3.5mm to dual male RCA audio works fine but no picture. I'm running the gambit trying these cables to find out what does and doesn't work. You can convert analog to digital the cable company is proof. I'm looking for input to weed out the people selling these cables.

VGA is analog and HDMI is digital. There is no way you will get a picture with just a simple passive cable. The VGA signal has to be processed through some sort of active conversion adapter before it will work with any digital input such as HDMI. To the best of my knowledge, the main purpose of such cables is to go the other way around such as a HDMI DVD player to VGA on the TV--and even then it may not always work.

It would be a lot easier to use something like a S-video or D-sub/RGB(both Analog) output from the laptop to connect to your TV.(if so equipped)

Ok, here's the deal. I have an HP cq60-417. It has VGA out so I bought a VGA to HDMI cable and trying to figure out how to get a picture. Vista is the OE. Any clue?
