Have you shorted the L1 fuse/choke ? | Hi, chong, Yes, my laptop was never broken! Here's how: 1. One day my orig.HP laptop charger broke with a big BANG sound 2. I am a void-warranty enthusiast, so I spliced some wires and connected an ACER charger (19V) to my laptop, and my HP booted, but worked 2-times(!) slower (clock feeding?); 3. I left the ACER charger to charge HP's battery, and went to the shop to buy a new charger 4. In the shop they (of course) did not have an HP orig.charger, so I bought a universal one 5. When I came back, the ACER charger did not charge the battery at all 6. When I plugged in the "universal" charger to my HP, it did not charge anymore, nor booted the PC itself. 7. When I tested back the ACER charger, it was not charging/not booting either anymore 8. I made a conclusion that playing with ACER charger/plugging in the original one, burned something in the laptop (since the universal charger booted the ACER laptop without problems) 9. I started disassembling my HP laptop, and posting problem on various forums (see above ) 10. Months later I came across an original HP charger, plugged it in and my laptop worked as before!! 11. I ordered an HP laptop charger from Hong-Kong, it shipped and now I have a fill working laptop like nothing happened!... Confusing factors: HP laptop chargers have 3 wires. 1 shield, one internal(active) wire and one needle-pin in the middle (a control/feedback signal?). You can see on the charger's label printed something like –©– Now, the universal/original chargers I've tried they shorten the active wire to the control/feedback pin. Sadly I did not check for this on my burned orig HP charger. The universal charger was perfectly charging/booting other new generation HP laptops (my one is "old", from 2007, HP 6170b), so I had problems returning this item (after I found out my laptop being completely sane) That's my story. Don't play with 3rd party chargers, kids! Otherwise you will become very experienced ) Good luck! -- sledge | Groovy! Who would have thought about that!!! Thanks for sharing, it's really instructive. |

|
Dear all, My laptop would not power nor charge from AC (boots with charged battery though), after a suspected damage by a non-HP power supply unit. I got the original HP PSU, but it won't boot either. Something's got toasted inside the MB. Here is the picture of power socket, and an apparently blown fuse: Question: can I shorten the fuse's pins to retry the powering on? Where should I start from and continue? I am a noob with an eager want to go ahead and learn. Thanks in advance; -- sledge[/url] |
