On closer inspection the other day I discovered the spring which holds down the white plastic assembly on which the print head rests when fully to the right, had come off and fallen in the guts below!
I had removed the white plastic bit as part of a general clean-up in this area, but stretched it slightly when refitting, which may have caused it to come off.
Anway, I've removed the major assembly (Brother call it "the engine unit") and retrieved the spring (from "the maintenance unit" underneath) and had a good clean-up on the underside (including rinsing-out the soak-pad insert to the case). I've shortened the spring a little and - as I type - am just a few hours away from reconnecting everything in a test set-up to see if it's bye-bye Paper Jam error. Watch this space. |

My 4-year-old Brother DCP340CW stopped printing yellow recently - repeated program cleans didn't fix so I used 1stb1's handy guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DSZNhEj3o4.
Unfortunately, now when power is applied the print head moves to the far right, then far left - it does this three times - then throws a Paper Jam error and I'm asked to remove the back cover (there is, of course, no paper jam!)
I'm still working on this one - I've downloaded the 408 page service manual - but has anyone any ideas?
The manual recognises that machine malfunction can cause the Paper Jam error and I've inspected and cleaned the CR encoder strip - but to no avail.
I bet this is something simple and I'll end up kicking myself! |
I actually have the same problem with an old Brother... couldn't figure it out! |
