Yeah, cleaning and checking connections is more based on hope than remedy. But easy to do and cheap.

I only have a basic multimeter and realize that in depth diagnosis is probably beyond my skillset. I hoped that I might be able to narrow things down to a component or two I could either simply replace or at worst have to do some soldering.

I also have discovered that after I go into diagnostic mode and exit I am able to power up the receiver. But if I unplug I get the same fault when I try to power up. But maybe going into diagnostic disables the protection?

Any suggestions? Even possibly other repair forums I may not know about.

Frustrating knowing that it could be a simple fix and not be able to chase it.

You can certainly check for loose connection(s) inside or do the basics such as disconnecting speaker wire to see if it has any effect(very unlikely). It could be a problem in power supply or more likely in the power amp. While it may be a small component fault, without some basic troubleshooting knowledge & test equipment, it is definitely not something to try for the average user.

First post here, found the forum via Google.

I have a Yamaha HTR 5630 receiver I've been really happy with and recently its gone south. Powers off almost immediately after powering on (less than 1 second).

Was able to find a repair manual via this forum and discovered that there is a diagnostic mode for this receiver and using that I was able to enter and found out an apparent power supply issue.

I am not a repair technician and would just like some guidance with diagnosis or suggestions. I'm comfortable with soldering but am a cabinetmaker by trade so advanced electronics diagnosis isn't a strong suit.

FWIW here are the error codes I've found so far.

PS PRT 47% (apparently this means the error is on the AC side?)

DC 23% PS 14% (normal value PS: 28 to 47)

As far as where to go from here I'm lost in regards how to narrow down the issue. I plan on taking the cover off and blowing it out/cleaning checking for loose connections. I moved to Hawaii a couple years ago and the air is tough on electronics.

I can supply a .pdf of the manual if necessary. Hope I can save this receiver hate to trash it but realize its not an expensive or rare piece of equipment.
