Not sure if this may be the problem in this case but I used to run in to a similiar situation with some of the dvd players where the mechanism used a solid clamper.(as opposed to a movable one).
It is rather unusual but I have seen it happen where the disc actually gets stuck to the round clamper disc and as you eject, the tray will come out but the disc remains stuck (dangling) inside. It was usually caused by something sticky spilt on top of the disc around the center hole or a sticker of some sort around where it is clamped.
Pretty much had to at least take the top cover off to release it .

PostPosted: Wed Aug 22, 2012 2:29 am    Post subject: TRAY OPENS BUT DVD REMAINS INSIDE PLAYER -help needed.

A preRecorded Retail DVD disc will not disengage and eject, though the tray opens easily when commanded to. I've pushed STOP & EJECT repeatedly. Also Tried Unplugging & restarting, but the DRAWER CONTINUES TO OPEN WITHOUT EJECTING THE DISC FROM THE DRIVE.

The menu display shows PLAY,STOP, RELOADING & EJECT accordingly, yet the disc remains inside & out of sight. Im unable to locate a FORCE EJECT BUTTON, like one would insert a paperclip in to force a stuck tray to open. Is there such a button that would force the disc to disengage & return it to tray? Or perhaps a HARD RESET might solve this?

The DVD player is a Phillips HTS3372D.
All suggestions and help is greatly appreciated.
