Thanks again, looks like I'll have to scrap it and buy a new one.

I can get a DMRES10 for £129, which is probably less than I'd pay to have the DMR50 repaired!

you are quite right the units are non serviceable. unfortunately they are only available on an exchange basis and also only available to members of the panasonic digital service network, for reference the part no is VXY1772-S.

Gary, thanks for the information, I had wondered if the problem was with the DVD unit.

I assume these units are not serviceable, do you have the make & model details please?

THIS MAY SOUND DAFT BUT THE FAULT IS THE RAM DRIVE UNIT ITSELF, IE THE MECH. THE ONLY CURE IS TO REPLACE IT. I HAVE DONE A COUPLE OF MACHINES FOR THIS NOT JUST THIS MODEL.

PostPosted: Sat Jan 21, 2006 7:48 pm    Post subject: Panasonic DMR-E50 write protection

My Panasonic DMR-E50 has recently started telling me that my DVD-RAM discs are read only.
When I look at the disc information, I am informed that the disc is protected and I am not allowed to unprotect it.
If I use a DVD-RAM disc in a cartridge all is OK.
Any information/ advice on this problem would be gratefully received.
