Will I conserve more energy by using a 120v AC 60watt reading lamp, or
a lamp that has a built in transformer that has an input of 120v AC to
12v AC which uses a 12v 60watt bulb?

The 120V AC bulb will be more 'efficient' because it is directly connected to the power source. The 12V AC bulb requires the use of a transformer, which will waste some energy as heat.
The difference, however, is minimal. You'd be far better off using an energy saving fluorescent bulb/tube if you are worried about saving energy.

Thanks for the heads up

current=watts/volts.
The lower the voltage the higher the current.
120v better as a result.
