Hello:

I was looking on the Internet for several days to buy a combo dvd/vcr but read from some opinions that they break easier. So I decided to buy just a plain vcr, and wonder if anyone knows at this time (they change so frequently!) which brand and model might be a good one?

I noticed most of them don't have the AUTOMATIC commercial skip. Anyone knows which brand/model has this particular function?

Thanks so very much for any opinion. Adela

By the end of the year vcr’s will be extinct. DVD burners have come down in price. A good vcr? Walmart $49.95. Walmart is talking about phasing the out before x-mas. I haven’t see auto skip in about a year. I know this isn’t going to help because I hate combo units but get a cheap say Toshiba combo –R and get your tapes to dvd.

Thank you, minnie, for your opinion. Then, my best bet would be to get a cheap combo and transfer my tapes to DVDs, and then to get a good DVD recorder? It makes sense if the VCRs will be extinct!

May I ask you something about a DVD? Will I be able to tape from my NON-digital TV to DVD discs in the same way as I did with my VCR? (I like to tape several programs daily). Do DVDs have commercial advance, preferably automatic? Also, will I be able to do time recordings, and is this easy to do?

This is all so new to me...Thanks very much again! Adela

Yes. You can program them the same as a vcr!
