hello,

hopefully someone able to help me out w/ this unit. got this computer a week ago from a garage sell. ( real cheap ) but it doesn't comes ON after a few try. it will power up and, hear the fan spinning real fast but just a black screen. I did the system restore & install all the software I need and it was working fine except when the unit needs to be rebooted the screen will only have black screen till I power it off totaly then turn it back on then everything will be okay. so I thought it could be a bios setting. I changed a few things in the bios & now the unit will not comes ON any longer. it powers up but. nothing shows on the screen. called sony and ask how to clear cmos or wheres the jumper to clear it. they said it doesn't have one. ( i think that's BS ) so what I did I removed the cmos battery to clear what ever setting I've changed in the bios to make the computer to boot again but it never did... powers on with black screen. I noticed the power button lights used to be green when it will comes ON & boot all the way to windows but now the lights on p/w button stay orange. don't know what else to do from here. hopping someone here had a unit or work on this type of computer in past & give me an Idea what else to check. thanks for the help.

Check the monitor with a flash light to see if there's a dim picture. If there's a dim picture, the LCD inverter or the lamp may need to be replaced. Also check the latch switch as it may be jammed into the case. If no picture, then your video board has a problem. connect an external monitor and see if theres a picture there. If there is, it's not the video card
