Hi, I have a dvd player that wouldnt turn on. After opening it, I found that the fuse was blown inside it on the power board. I replaced it, plugged it in again and it blew right away.

1) Any clue on the problem off hand?
2) How would I go about isolating the problem?

Thanks!
JB

BTW - its a Sony DVP-CX850D. The schema is in the manual database but I'm a newbie in regards to making use of them.

When you say the fuse blew right away, did it blow it completely black or just break the fuse wire. Where abouts is the fuse?

Regards

thanks for the response. the fuse is right next to where the power cord goes into the power board (?). When I plug it in, it blows the fuse with a visible spark. There is usually a black spot within the fuse glass.

More than likely main chopper transistor(FET) is shorted which may or may not have taken out other devices (scan diodes or drive transistor) with it. Have seen & repaired it many times in my work. ---more than involved for a non-technician tho.

On the other hand you can change the entire power supply (if still avail) but then it may be cost prohibitive
