I have a samsung lcd that has 3 blown capacitors on the power supply board. This is a common issue with my model. I would really like to get this tv working again today, but the only capacitor I can find (1000uf 35v 85c) has a lower temperature rating than the original (1000uf 10v 105c). I've gone up slightly in temperature and voltage before when replacing capacitors, but never down. What sort of issues could arise from this? Besides shorter lifespan. thanks[/code]

Here's a thought, use the ones you have untill you get the correct ones. Don't put back 10 volts replace them with either 16 or 25 volts. I use 1000@25's. I did 3 yesterday. It will be fine untill you replace them again. If your that consirned leave the back off, just remember to put at least one of the four screws back in the base so it doesn't tip over.

Depending on the amount of heat generated by the adjacent components, using 85c instead of 105c may have a shorter life span. Like minnie said, the voltage rating is much more critical and best to go higher than the original. Due to various cost factors, capacitor voltage ratings are often selected with little or no headroom thereby causing premature failures.
Temp rating is mainly considered for "longer component life" due to possible exposure &/or close proximity to heat generating devices within a circuit.

In case of electrolytic capacitors in a switched mode power supply, it is more important to make sure that you get a low-ESR part than that it has the correct temperature rating.

Also, make sure that the capacitors you are going to buy can withstand enough ripple current.

Beware of the cheapest low-ESR types, they usually have no better typical data than a standard electrolytic, the only difference is that the manufacturer does state and warrant a ESR value.

As you see, one has to read the manufacturer's datasheet very carefully in order not to get in later trouble with electrolytic capacitors. And don't buy capacitors from a vendor which cannot state the manufacturer and model designation of his capacitors.

Is that 10 for $1.00
OR
$10.00 for 10 Question
