Hi. I have this deck since the late 80's and the auto-reverse does not work properly any longer. It does not reset the head into the correct position for playback. Sometimes I can make it work in one direction by taking the door off and holding the head in position while pressing play so it may be a weak spring or something. If anyone has a service manual and would be willing to upload it, I would be thankful. Or if someone knows the problem and how to fix, that would also be great. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Could very well be a belt but problem is I'm hesitant in even pulling it apart without something to go by. I found a manual for a GX-R35 that may be close enough if I can't find anything else. The actual GX-R55 manual would be desired if it's out there. Or possibly the R66, R88 or R99 manual since they are the same vintage and may be more similar. Thanks for responding.

If you've got reasonable mechanical skills, (you can take something apart and then reassemble it without parts left over), fairly straight forward. I do it all the time without the manual. Cool

Yeah, I've picked a few things apart and can usually use all the parts again. Laughing Maybe I'll muster up the courage and give it a try this week. It's not really very usable in current state so probably not a big deal if I can't fix it. And I might get lucky.
