Theoretically, all equipment that in any way uses magnetic fields for their operation can be disturbed by external magnetic fields.
In practice, the most sensistive types of equipment are units with CRTs and units that use magnetic means for recording audio, video or data (tape recorders, VCRs, POS terminals, hard disks, diskette drives etc). In some cases, badly screened signal transformers (i.e. in audio mixers) can get the core saturated by external magnetic fields. Be very careful about AM radios with a built-in ferrite rod antenna, as those ferrite rods can be permanently damaged by a strong field. |
