Why does my fluke autoscale seem to flake out when measuring bad resistors? Example I just measured a 1.5M ohm resistor that I figured was bad but when I measured it ,it read ".0600 M" ohms.

I have seen other DVMs do this but never thought to ask why.

Thanks
Micheal

While you may have a calibration issue, I've never seen a problem in measuring resistors in general but I do know that with higher megaohm values, you may get incorrect readings at times. Also make sure the probe tips are shiny clean. Slight bit of tarnish can cause any meter to be way off.

Are you sure it was a 1.5 meg ohm resistor that you were measuring?

Yes sir. Positive they are 1.5M and the tips are new fluke probes

Thing is , if the resistor is good it has been my observation that it always measures right and scales it accordingly .

It's a Fluke 189 if that means anything.
Weird isn't it.

That was my post above

I guess I'll take the resistor to work and what my meter at work does.

Thank you

Hi.
Maybe fuse contact inside Fluke is bad or def.
If batt is poor you will get incorrect data
