The brightness & contrast varies depending on what is displayed on screen.
Sometimes the brightness goes so high that the monitor shuts down.
Does anyone know the fault?
Does anyone have a circuit diagram that they can email me?
Thanks.

It sounds like it is having trouble regulating the voltage. Try testing all of the filter capacitors and checking for broken solder joints. Have you measured the B+?

Solder joints ok. It's hard to make measurments without a circuit diagram
as it's a complex monitor, I will try,

Measure the B+, if it is fluctuating the high voltage will also be fluctuating. When the voltage goes up and things get bright you risk destroying many parts.
Actually you would be better off testing all of the electrolytics in the powersupply before you power it up again, especially looking for open circuit ones. Give them a gentle wiggle, sometimes a leg will fall off and they will be loose. Do you have an ESR meter?
