A friend just gave me his Hitachi 50UX58B because it died and he used that as an excuse to get a new TV.

I told him I'd take it and see if I can get it working myself, I've always like to tinker with electronics.

The symptoms are that when I plug it in, the Red LED turns on for a few seconds, then disappears. It won't power up at all, it's dead.

As I've read through other topics in this mb, I've come across some people saying that I should replace the c707 and e994 fuses.

I haven't looked at the circuit board yet to find where those are, but does anyone know where I can buy those fuses? Are they standard type fuses that I can pick up at any Electronics store? Are they hard to find on the board?

Any other suggestions that might be the cause for this dead TV?

Thank you for any help!

C707 and e994 fuses are a good place to start. Convergence IC's are also a common failure. Tritronicsinc.com is a great place to look up parts.

Got any tips on where to look for these fuses when I am looking at the board? Any easy way to find them?

Alright, after looking around the board, I found c707 and after closer inspection, I can clearly see that it has been blown! It has a black "tear" in it and some residue just above the cracked line.

The following 3 pictures will show others how to find this part. The third picture actually shows the blue c707 piece and that picture was shot facing back towards myself. The first two pictures were shot facing away from myself, into the cabinet:

I still haven't found the e994 yet.

Ok, found the e994, here's a picture for those of you who are looking for it. Mine seems to be just fine:

Minnie, I saw you post this on another thread.

I replaced my c707 and it still doesn't work.

The e994 is in tact, isn't "popped" or anything like that. When I plug the TV in, I hear things start up, 5 out of the 6 green LED's that I can see turn on, but the green LED that is closest to the e994 protector doesn't turn on and then the other 5 green LED's turn off as the red "Protect" LED flashes on and off.

Any suggestions on my next step? If one of those parts that you listed in the quote above were bad, would I be able to tell just be visual inspection?

Thank you for your help!

Did you check E996? Check all your pico fuses and let me know.

Well, upon visual inspection, it seems fine, intact. I haven't noticed any others around that area that look damaged.

Could something be damaged without being to visually see "proof" of damage. like a crack in it or something?

After looking more closely at the green LED's on the board, I see that they are all labeled on the board.

The one green LED that does not light up is labeled "+B 120V"

Does that give any insight into what's wrong?
