When I turn it on it makes two clicking sounds "relay" then the error
light on the Powers Supply board "D407" turns red. Repair Documentaion
hints the 14v DC to DC converter.

Anyone ever fix a Pioneer Plasma?
Where can I get parts?
Ideas?

thx,

Andrew

Yes! that's the one... but...

AWZ6405 POWER SUPPLY (NLA - SEE NOTE)

NLA in the note means "no longer available"

I sent a Email to Pioneer asking if there was a compatable one
available. Still a new one from Pioneer is going to run me about $400
if there even is one.

What would be great is if I could repair mine. I have full PDF schematics
and calibration documents on it and it all looks like a pretty straight
forward Power Supply. I could buy a lot of caps and diodes for $400.

Probeing arround with a meter I see that the primary side of the PCB
has 3 big caps that read 0 ohms accros them. The secondary side has
the same set of caps and they read normal. It could be a coil in there.
If I was brave enough I'd just start desoldering everything and measure
them out of curcuit.

if the capacitors measure short remove them check each out of circuit . if all measure good(not short) check diodes or diode bridge next to caps.

So the original is NLA, but subs. Tritronics shows both part numbers are active.

Pioneer is continuing to offer a free, in-home/office power supply replacement for certain of its second and third generation plasma models listed below for customers who experience a problem with the original power supply. If a model is not listed below, no power supply replacement is needed and no further action needs to be taken.

If you own or use a plasma listed below, please call our toll free hotline at 1-800-421-1404 to arrange a time to have your plasma's power supply upgraded at your residence or office at no charge.

Plasma Models (15 listed):

PDP-505HD
PDP-503PU
PDP-5030HD
PDP-5031HD
PDP-433PU
PDP-4300
PDP-4310
PDP-4330HD
PRO-800HD
PRO-800HDI
PRO-1000HD
PRO-1000HDI
PDP-433CMX
PDP-502MX
PDP-503CMX
The issue with the power supply in the plasmas listed above does not pose any health or safety risk. Pioneer has received reports that the power supply in the affected models may fail. In some cases, a loud popping sound can be heard when a power supply fails. After the power supply fails, the plasma is no longer operable.

So I called Pioneer and they gave my a Case# and local shop to call
and schedule a repair. Good thing I didn't try and repair the board
myself. Pioneer said if I had they would not replace it for free.

Did you take the board in only or the whole plasma itself?
