Posting this for anyone trying to do upgrades or repairs to their Gateway 400 SD4 and don't want to pay tons of $$ to send it to Gateway.
This is the only place online I've been able to find a free service manual. Apparently it was once on Gateway's site (bottom of manual pages all say gateway.com) but Gateway has removed it. I've searched all over and can't find it at Gateway, anyway.

TO GET IT:

Go here: eserviceinfo.com/
You'll see boxes of search criteria. At the upper left, just to the LEFT of "Search" button, type in "gateway 400 sd4" (leave out quotes) and you'll get a list of hits. The manaul you want should be first on the list. You have to download all 4 parts. The download link is toward the bottom of the page in the center of the page. To get all 4 parts, under File Information you'll see "Multipart". Click on 0, download and save to a folder on your hardrive, then repeat those steps with 1, then 2, and finally 3.

Service manual above is compressed in .RAR formate. So you have to download software called WinRar to extract. (You get a 40 day trial before having to purchase WinRar. ) I've not used it before, but it's not difficult at all.

Download winrar extracting program from here:
download.com/WinRAR/3000-2250_4-10614813.html?tag=lst-0-1
Install WinRar

Go to the folder on your harddrive where you downloaded parts 0-3. Doubleclick on part 0 and winRar will launch and extract it. You'll then get the entire 79 page manual in Adobe format (, complete with tools you'll need, photos, etc. (WinRar must pick up that there are 4 parts, because I did not have to click on each successive file, such as 1, 2 or 3, to get the entire manual extracted.) Another way to extract is to launch WinRar, then go to File>Open Archive, and then navigate to the folder storing the compressed 4 part manual. Click on part 0 and extract.

ESI multi-part download works for me. You just have to download the parts properly. Laughing
