I have an old driveless digital 4-track mixer that I used to use an external zip drive with (this was back in the day). I can use external SCSI drives with it as well, but I have recently discovered that a 2.5" E-IDE notebook drive can be installed internally.
Here is the link to the fourtrack's service manual. The instructions on installing an E-IDE drive start on page 20. http://www.fostexusa.com/support/pdf/fostex/fd4/fd4_service_manual.pdf
As you can see, a 50-pin male eide header needs to be soldered onto the mainboard. I'm assuming this is a JAE50 standard, used in slimline notebook drives (it's the only 50-pin configuration I know of, besides Ultra2 SCSI). My problem is that I can only find 2.5 inch hard drives in 44-pin configurations. Did they ever actually make 50-pin HDD's? How would I go about getting a 44-pin drive to connect to the Fostex's PCB?
Finally, a bracket is needed to hold the drive in place. Any suggestions on where I can find this?
Thanks for the help.
