I'd try the flyback. First discharge the anode cap by taking a screw drive w/insulated handle and hook alligator leads to the screw driver metal and ground strap around the CRT, pop the cap off. Put some RTV around where the caps sits, put the anode lead back on and let it cure. The sound you're hearing is high voltage. If the RTV doesn't work, replace the flyback and do the same thing again. If it still leaks it's a cad picture tube. You sure it's a JVC not a Sony?

....KVX2172U is in fact a Sony brand TV (AE2A chasis) ---not JVC. & coincidently, there were reported problems w/screen control on the flyback which would cause a blank screen.

Why haven't you put RTV on or replaced the flyback yet??? You asked for answers and 2 were given. RTV will seal the CRT. If it still leaks the flyback could be bad. Or the picture tube.

my dear friend what minnie has said is right plz do it. but before doing that see that you discharge the picture tube by grounding one end of lead to the ground of the picture tube and the other end pushed into the EHT cap on the picture tube, or else u will end up gettin a nice shock.
After that try removing the EHT cap, clean it thoroughly and the portion near the cap of the picture tube, and use a hot blower to dry the remaining moisture. plz do not overheat the picture tube, just a light blow dry.
