A few days ago I turned my TV (50" Sony Projection) and after a couple minutes the red color started to not align with the rest of the picture. No strange noises or burning smells to accompany. I turned the TV off and went to work on some other stuff.

About a day later, I turned the TV on and the same thing happened. It was fine for a minute and then the red started bending again.

I got a quote for the tv to be fixed and the repair guy said it would be $500, but wouldnt explain what was wrong. I asked multiple times and he just kept saying it would be $500.

Any suggestions?

Most likely some problem in the optical unit. Could be some issues with some of the many lenses in the unit. Such parts costs a &¤&?* load of money.

I once replaced the whole complete optical unit on such a tv. Even if I got hold of a slightly used unit, the bill ended up at $1000.
