Sears vcr tuner fades to unclear

I have a sears vcr (30152). When you use the tuner to select a station, it is clear for a second and then gets a little fuzzy. When you change the channel it clears up for a second and then goes a little fuzzy again.

Any idea what the problem is?

I'm not familiar with the set but the tuner could be faulty. Try squeezing it to see if the picture comes and goes. If it's faulty you might be able to solder it inside but you've got to be extremely careful. Another possibility is the zener diode that controls the tuner voltage is leaky, allowing the voltage to drift.
