Hi,

Can anybody tell me what is wrong with my video recorder?

We had an electrical storm a while ago and ever since it has been faulty.

I'm hoping that it is repairable and that it is something simple that I could do myself.

The video recorder rewinds and fast forwards and goes through the motions of playing the cassette, but it does not display and image on the TV when playing. I've checked all the connections, but no joy.

Can anybody fill me in? Is it headed for the bin or not?

the repair is not a simple one. lasting repair involves replacing a capacitor, 2 surface mount resistors, 100pin surface mount micro thats about the same size as a first class stamp, and finally reprogramming the nvram, you will need a very fine soldering iron and a lot of care, if you want the details of how to do it i will send them to you but it is a long involved job that i would not recommend to anybody who has little experience with smd work, the machine was never a good one. let me know what you decide.

Yes, if you could post the details as a step by step guide for me then that would be VERY useful! I won't be doing the soldering, but my lovely fiancee will be!
