packard bell A272 monitor 17"

hi i have the above monitor. this morning i found my desktop had resized, where it once filled all of the screen it now has black borders on the left and right of the screen H size. (i have ajusted V size so i dont have a squashed pic so i now have a 10" screen viewable image)

when i adjust the H posistion all the way to the left or right the image seems like its folding in on it self. so i guess some thing needs replaceing or something.

so my questions are what has happend?, why has it happend? and can it be fixed?

i dont know much about the insides of monitors apart from the screen is a big bulb with phosper inside
