Hi Everyone.

Having a problem with my panny s35 dvd player.

If the player has been unplugged from some time the disc spins up as normal, then quite rapidly slows again showing H02 no disc.

I have checked the components on the PSU (SMEW N870A-T) and there appears to be a faulty transistor. IC1151 gets hot but appears OK on Checking. I think it is getting shunted by Q1116. One terminal in one direction shows current flow. all other terminals are open circuit (no shorts). The caps around this are charging OK and the diodes are good. The part on the Board is Q1116. The only markings are 3E (I think National Semiconductor) and the number on it is J608.

I cannot find ANY info on this part anywhere. I have downloaded the DVD-S35 rar file from this site but the PSU is subtly different and does not list these components. I am in New Zealand and S35 here is not the same as the European model.

I am looking for an equivalent transistor to replace this.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks

Adrian

Adrian,

I'm not in NZ, but just looked at a S35 schematic & can see what you are talking about.
However, Q1116 has nothing to do with shunting IC1151.

Q1116 is the 5V regulator & is in fact a MOSFET which is throwing you off when trying to check it. (stands for 2SJ608 & is testing like what is supposed to)

Number ONE problem with these series of players is actually the spindle motor itself & sometimes the drive IC. IC1151 is the source for the motor voltage & willing to bet a shorting spindle is the root of the problem.

Here's a shot

Hi VTech... Thanks 1st for replying.

OK... Will solder Q1116 back into the board! Smile Thanks for that.

The board is a little discoloured around the diodes D1121/1122 near that voltage reg.

The motor spins up ok... then dies over about 10 secs..... does this sound like the motor? How do I test it? are they replaceable/expensive?

IC1151 gets HOT... but I have pulled the plug before it smells! Smile

Thanks again.... Adrian

Discoloration is ok. You can try running the motor on a bench power supply & slowly bringup the voltage as you monitor the current draw. You MIGHT be able to clear out the short ... I've done it on occasion. Motors are avail. as a sub-assembly only & require Azimuth adjustment after replacement---not something for AVG hobbyist.

..with the cost of players it is not worth messing with.
