I noticed a post from Carcus about no picture but teletext ok = CRT problem. I have a 6 year old Sony KV28FX60 which displays a picture for about 5 seconds after power on before blanking. With the screen blank I can still get teletext and the on-screen menus. We had a guy look at it but he declared it beyond economic repair due to a U/S tube but I don't understand how the tube can have gone if it will display text / menus. Is it really dead.
Can anyone enlighten me - Thanks Very Happy

in simple terms most sony CRT TV's in recent years use AUTO-CUTOFF (auto-colour balance) where the beam current on each of the 3 colour guns are monitored during the blanking period .... if one or more of the beam currents is outside of the theshold of the auto-cutoff circuit it no longer able to calculate a suitable colour balance i.e. a CRT bias fault has occured or a CRT fault has occured .... the best way for it to cope with this is to blank the picture if it can .... teletext and on screen menu's are pure RGB and not analog video like a normal picture and are basicly just injected into the video circuit
