Yamaha RX-850 receiver problems

I am having problems with my receiver (yamaha rx850). It will give me sound out of the rear and center speakers but nothing from the front ones. I have checked all the obvious, the speakers work and are plugged in correctly the sound is up on the front speakers etc. I believe it is a programming error due to the fact that when I am messing with the configurations there are 2 lines in the display window instead of a number when I am trying to turn specifically the front sound up. I have to go through a separate step to change that with no luck. I have read the manual with no luck as well. If someone is familiar with this I would appreciate some assistance.
