hi, this set is stuck in standby but when turned out of standby trips and returns to standby, on inspection i found the lopt was badly dry jointed, i reflowed it and tryed again, it was still the same so i checked the line output transistor (bu808dfi) but this seemed ok, to check this was ok i swapped it out for a bu508dfi and turned the set on, the eht started but then the transistor went totally s/c.has anyone had a similar problem or a diagram? could it be the lopt shorted? the ht is around 114v and the chassis is a vestell ak46, thanks for your time, jon. |

Hi there, had the same problem with two of these! Take a very careful look at the soldering in the lopt area. I found many components with one leg not fully pushed through the board before soldering and many suspect joints. One ate
5 BU508DFI's before I found the bad connection!
Regards
John. |

thanks for that john, did the bu508dfi fail straight away nearly or did it take a whilke as when it failed on this set it was almost instant. is it ok to use a bu508df in place of a bu808dfi? thanks again, jon. |

Hi.
This was a very useful tip - thanks
Just reparied a set with similar symptoms. Except with this one the TV worked but no picture, and wouldn't switch to DVD. Tray wouldn't eject or anything. This had been playing up on & off for a month or so, but then went completely. Still got TV sound, but nothing else worked
Found 2 dry joints on the LOPT. Re-soldered and alls well again
NB: Without this I may have spent ages looking for PSU problems
Don't have a manual or CCT for this, but I guessed that the LOP stage generates the power for the DVD section. Anyway - all fixed now
Thanks a lot.
