Why Dose it shut off all the time ?

Hey I need help please I have had my stereo for a year or so and every time i turn it on it turns of about every 20 to 30 mins and as it shuts off it displays the word protect. How do i keep it from turning off all the time and what dose it mean when it dose that ?
