Any suggestions please.
The telephone line was plugged into the modem and got zapped during a lightning storm. The only component damaged in question is across the +/- 50v line-in socket.
It is glass of small size with coloured marking bands Yellow, Black, Orange (or other way round). Can I assume that it is a Avalanche diode or some other sort of protection diode?
Can someone tell me what I can use to replace it please. |

It is definitley a surge protector/absorber. While it is next to impossible to determine the exact device, you can use a device called "sidactor" in it's place---& possibly many other protectors . Do a search for sidactor.
...although rather simple, you may find it impractical due to the cost of dialup modems nowadays. |
