lost tv remote...need to get rid of AV icon

My father lost his tv remote for his Panasonic TX-28PK3 Tele, and now he cannot remove a little icon that says AV1 when he watches the tv or a dvd.
There isn't a recall button on the box to get rid of this. So is there;
a) someway/trick togetting rid of this or,
b) a very cheap remote that would work for the make for less than £10?
