Hi, my Philips 28PW6515 turns itself off after an hour or so as if going onto standby only it won't come back on! It tries to as i can here the brief power on 'clicking' and the standby light flashes sometimes but it can't quite do it.

If left to cool down for a day then i can get an hour out of it but if i power off at the wall and try again straight after then it will just power off after 30 seconds or so.

After it powers off it will magically turn itself back on after about 90 minutes!!!

Could anyone please PLEASE help me to fix my tv? It's a family set and we cannot afford to replace it.

probable cause is ic7064 on the small signal pcb, it is a 100pin surface mount device, make sure you note all the geometry settings before changing ic and that you fit the correct version, its not a job for someone who has not worked with smd's before.

The set is shutting down under protection control because something is not right- this is designed in(if kept running, would do major(expensive damage)- the problem is finding the faulty components, which could be minor or major- to suggest the uPc as responsible without seeing/testing the set is irresponsible in my opinion- could be as simple as a dry solder joint, or a s/c diode- or then again may be the smd suggested- either way, somebody who is experienced is required to fix this set(don,t you just love getting bodged sets to fix-not!!!). Shocked

a short circuit diode would be short circuit all the time and would be highly unlikely to cause a fault after 1 hour, i have repaired dozens of these sets at the philips service centre i work at, and 99.9% of the intermittent faults on this chassis are caused by the micro processor which is why philips now supply a new uprated version, enter the service mode by pressing 062596 then the I+ button, post the first line of the osd and i will tell you whether the set has the updated micro or the defective earlier version, search for forum threads under A10e and you will find lots of similar intermittent fault reports
