set does not turn on, only makes burst of sound like trying to come on. If I turn it on and off long enough it will eventually come on. Then shrink big and small until it warns up to a full picture.

Does it drop to a thin line in the center or does the picture shrink on all four sides?

no thin line just the picture gets large and small bouncing in and out until set warms to full picture
