JVC MX-J76 volume problem

Hi guys! I have a JVC MX-J76 mini sound system here (3 cd changer, d-tape, pro-logic) and no matter which side I turn the volume control, it just keep going up. The only way to turn it down is by using the remote control. Is there anybody who can help me with this problem?

Maybe the pulse encoder is broken?
The rotary encoder is the thing you turn for the volume. maybe it needs a new one soldered in?
