I have a Sony MHC-DX20 Mini Hi-Fi Component System, which is not switching on. The standby LED lights up but it does not start with power on/off button or remote. Tried simultaneously press- stop button+ENTER+power ON/OFF for factory reset etc. but of no avail. Display is totally blank. Checked for loose connections inside. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Shyam

Does pressing the power switch take it out of standby mode, but nothing happens? If so, it could be one of two things:

1. (most likely) one - if not both - of the main audio output hybrid ICs are defective; causing a shutdown. Before you check this, check #2.

2. The power transformer might be at fault. Check that output AC voltages are present on the secondary legs.

If #2 is OK, then remove one of the IC in #1 (as with most of these units, it may be a 2 IC system. It may be on a module that you can unplug - not sure for that model. After you remove one IC, power up unit and test. If it works, you know that IC alone is bad. If it does not power up, then remove the second (if more than one), and test again. It unit powers up fine. Then the IC is defective. If there were two ICs, put back the first one, and test again - to make sure that one is bad.

These ICs run about $50 each, so make sure both are bad.

Follow up please.

Thanks for the response. Manually pressing the on/off switch does not take it out of standby; using the remote does, but then nothing happens-- not even the display lights up, it reverts to standby within say 8 seconds of using the remote. The whole problem started after the unit was transported on a long journey. Does the clarification help in diagnosis? Would revert if remedy is suggested. Thanks again.
