mitsubishi vs-582r picture adjustment

I recieved a mitsubishi projection screen tv from a friend. The picture wasn't that great mainly because it is an older tv i think. There are many adjustments color wise but most that I try make it look worse. There are adjustments on the lamps themselves which I have adjust but then the picture was blurry worse than when I started. I would like to now if you could help me, if maybe they should be adjusted a certain way or if there is a color configuration that maximizes picture quality. If you can help me it would be greatly appreciated.
