How to test and/or repair auto wiper relay

I have an older car in which a water leak has possibly damaged the wiper control relay. How can I test it for failures?

Does the wipers work?
If not, consult the electric drawing of your car and connect the 12V directly to the wiper motor(briefly).
If the wipers work, the relay is gone.

Take a meter and turn the switch on and see if your getting 12 volts at the wiring harness. Normally it's the ground wire to the motor that goes bad.
