philips fw-p880 "disc not finalized" error

a friend just sold me his old stereo which worked GREAT the first day I had it. today, however, I tried playing a burnt CD-R on it and got a "DISC NOT FINALIZED" error. Now when I try to play ANY CDs, I get the same message--even the the store-bought CDs that I played on it when I first got it! I've tried unplugging the damn thing to see if maybe that will reset it or something, but no such luck as of yet.

Does anyone have any suggestions? This thing is AWESOME, if I could only get it to work again!
