The main problem is within the red circle on the main pcb . If you look close, you will likely notice cracked soldered joints at arrows shown..... While you have it opened, you should check other areas in blue and resolder if needed & watch out not to bridge any of the connections. Double check your work and start putting the humpty dumpty back together.
Before putting the mechanism back in, you must check the position of mode select switch;
I will be checking back tomorrow evening |

Thank you very much for your help. The problem was the cracked joints in the red areas you have indicated. The blue areas were fine. I reassembled the VCR and it works beautifully.
You have been very helpful to me. Besides giving my thanks and gratitude, is there anything I can do for you? |

SV5000W was one of the few units that automatically played different format tapes from overseas (PAL/SECAM etc) and converted them to NTSC. This is why you may still see them around. |

vtech that was an amazing guide to fixing the device, however I have no experience with soldering and am too afraid of messing up the device since I paid so much for it. Do you know of any place where I can send this out and get it repaired? |

I used to work with them for a number of years but as you know vcr's are a thing of the past and seriously doubt if anyone in US would even be in business of fixing vcr's anymore? It was not difficult at all. Perhaps you may be able to get a handy person to tackle it? |

Nah, I am in the south. What is exactly the problem? Are you seeing the "comet effect" superimposed on the video while playing tapes--while everything else is operating ok? |
