I have just bought a 2nd hand 6000cd and but I've noticed the radio does not tune as well as my previous unit. Any ideas how I can improve this?

Do you have an antenna hooked up to it?

Yes. My old unit had a fault with the CD player but the radio was fine. The replacement (2nd hand) only picks up a few stations but the cd player is ok. How easy do you think it would be to swap the CD players over?

Are the units identical? The Ford 6000CD car stereo has been manufactured for many years by at least three different subcontractors, each one using its own design for the internal parts. If the FM tuner assembly is a separate, shielded unit, it might be easier to swap that one than to swap the CD mechanism.

Is the radio bad on both FM and AM or just on one of the wave bands?

yes its bad on both. I've spoken to a friend who has the rquired screwdriver to open the unit and a soldering iron that he's not afraid to use! We're going to check for bad solders or perhaps swap either cd player or reciever over whichever is easier. Although the same models they have different manufacturers. Thanks for input Rolling Eyes
