|
|
I just hooked up my Harman Kardon AVR 430 at my new home and it turns on for about 3 seconds and then shuts off. Has anyone experienced this problem or can you point me in the right direction? The things I have plugged into it are as follows: DVD player using component video cable and regular audio cables; Comcast Digital Cable Box using component video cables and regular audio cables. The monitor goes to my large HDTV with component video cables. I have surround sound speakers and a sub woofer connected as well. |

I too have an H/K AVR430 for about 1 year now. All of a sudden it simply turns off after about 3 to 5 seconds. There has not been any change in setup. Any ideas?

I have had an AVR 430 for several years and it has always worked perfectly. The other day it just started shutting off after 2-3 seconds. No matter what source I turn on and even with no external hookups. I assume that some internal component has gone bad. Any idea of what it is or how to fix it?? Any help would be great. |

I am also trying to repair the unit, with the same symptom. I have the manual, which is pretty much useless in this case.
Adjusting the bias, well the first reading I got was very low and the receiver won't stay on long enough to allow the reading to stabilize.
I had a Yamaha with a similar problem. No info in any manual as to how to track down this issue. Any ideas? |

Not sure, but it sounds like the protection circuit might be kicking in,
or one of the supply voltages is missing. First thing to check is to see
if you have all voltages out of the power supply system. Haven't had
the time to look at the manual much, but usually you have some low
voltage sources (+15,-15,+5, etc) and a high voltage source (+65,-65)
or so to drive the amp. (These are not actual voltages, just examples).
Need to check all of these during the brief time it runs.
Two thing about reading voltages. Turn of autoranging and set to the
voltage range you're looking for to improve response time of the meter.
Second, you said the bias voltage was low? Specs call for 23mv bias.
How much lower is it? If you're much over a volt or so, you probably have
a problem with that channel. |
