Hey all from Michigan.
I'm a second year electronics students at my local Community College.
Currently I'm in a class for analyzing FM, AM, Multiplex, TV, and other
similar type things.
The television that is listed in the subject line is going to be my first
attempt at an actual repair. I've got a basic understanding of active
devices, and general electronics, but my professor would rather talk
about black and white television repair than LCD.
The problem:
I think the problem with this TV is pretty common. When I power it
on, their is a quick flash, then the screen goes back to black. The green
power indicating LED stays on. I've got the TV in my basement dis-
mantled, but I don't know where to start.
I hope you can help me, this is MY television that I had for only 2-3 years
and I'm a broke college student. Right now my family is watching a 13
inch CRT with built in VCR. PLEASE HELP! |

Take a flash light up to the screen and see if you can see faint video. You did not mention if the set has menu or sound. Post all pertinent information. |

1. No video, not even faint
2. No menu
3. No sound
4. LED solid green
5. Quick flash of screen brightness upon turning on/off.
All boards and components appear to be in good shape(no obvious blown
components).
There was never any kind of bad electrical smell from the
set.
My wife attempted to start the set one morning, and got the flash. There
no apparent signs that the set was going bad. |

I would say ssb (small signal board). Reason being that's where the micro/eprom are. Quick flash of light tell you the power supply is good. Problem with Phillips you'll probably have to take it apart to get the panel version so you get the right ssb. |
