Mag Innovision 800V 19" CRT monitor

I have been attempting to get my monitor repaired and I just got around to getting the board out as well as the neck board.

I think there is at least something wrong with the vertical deflection, but the monitor also won't even come on. I cut a hole in the back of the case and put in a DC fan to exhaust the air, and now the monitor won't come on.

Before I go to far with it, the monitor was doing something I think is strange and I don't want to go to far troubleshooting it if there is a problem with the CRT itself.

There was a 1" strip across the screen about 1/4 way down from top that is out of focus and the rest of the screen is fine.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

You have a prob in vert section- the protection is shutting the set down- you need to test components in vert section, though all sections should be checked- you are looking for faulty electros, diodes, bad solder joints, leaky transistors/ic,s etc- if cold check doesn't locate your problem, consider a circuit diagram to help- the crt will be fine in this case.

First, thank you for responding. That was one of my first thoughts. however, I cut a hole in the top of the case at the back and put in a 80 MM D.C. fan to exhaust the hot air because I thought there was too much heat coming from the set. In retrospect, I should have jut taken out the back panel of the case.

When I turned on the monitor and then fan, there was a clicking noise coming from the area of the fan. I quickly shut off both and then turned on the monitor, but the only thing that happens with it is the relay clicks inside and the front led comes on, but no other sign of power. No "Whomp" when turned on, no static sound on screen.

So now I think I have some other major Sad

problem besides the vertical.

I am really only try to fix this monitor just to see if I can do it.

Yes you or anyone else can fix faults- But ypu have to know how to test parts, faultfind etc- your responses don't give me much hope- the fact you cut a hole in back of case & put a fan in shows you are a rank amateur- make no mistake- fixing electronic stuff is difficult- that is why we always keep learning- the competent fixer would have many years of experience & knowledge- if you purchase a monitor repair book, you will be where I was 30 years ago.
