I found a bad tantalum cap (broken leads) on my motherboard. Cannot cross it to another one to replace it . Numbers on the old one are 330 71tt d. National Parts Depot and toshiba want to sell me another motherboard. Can anyone help??

330 denotes 330 microfard in general & 71ttd is probably not significant in your case & you should be able to try something in that range within the voltage range of the laptop.

How do you know it is a tantalum though? can you post a picture?

I figured out it was a cap because of the C designation of the location on the board. Someone with more experience told me it was a tantalum. From all I have read I also thought the 330 was the value. At this point I agree with you vtech that I should be able to use something within the voltage limits of the laptop, maybe 10V, 16V, 20V, as size permits. I am unsure how to post a picture.

Whatever your working voltage is, go next step higher, space permitting as you indicated.
