First the picture shrunk vertically and was badly distorted, then a minute later it was perfect, then it shrunk again, then it went black. Now the standby light comes on when the power is turned on, and blinks slowly and steadily (not with a group of blinks but just on-off-on-off...)

I unplugged it for a while, and when I plugged it back into the wall outlet I noticed a pretty nice spark. The power is off, so you'd think it would draw very little current.

I tried to download the schematic for it from the database section of this web site, but the .rar files appear corrupted and will not extract.

Does anyone have files they could send me? Does anyone have advice on where to look once I start troubleshooting this POS? I'm at jim9689 at yahoo dot com

Next time I will buy any brand but Sony. They are overrated and sell a lot of junk.

Sounds like the vert section of your board is faulty.

I'd replace the vert IC and all supporting caps. around it. The vert IC usually has a code starting with "LAxxxx". Look for it on your board, download the spec sheet of the IC to locate the supporting caps.

Good luck! Laughing
