I need to repair a Sony KV 32V65 TV. I need to replace the Vertical Output IC.

Can someone help me identify the part i need, by part number and where I can purchase it?

Also, if someone could refer me to step-by-step instructions on how to find and repalce this part on this TV, i'd appreciate it. I have some experience replacing ICs, but need instructions opening the TV and finding the right compontent to replace.

thank you.

There are many resources online "how to desolder/solder" available via search engine.

Order part - examine part - find SAME identical part on circuit board (hint: mounts against a heat sink - there are only a limited amount of heat sinks and only one of this part on board) - remove part - replace with New part. Try set and hope for best.

Thank you for the help! I've opened my TV and think I found the part. I'll confirm once I get the new one in the mail. The biggest issue I have is that the PCB is connected to other parts of the TV so I have not found a good set up that will allow me to desolder/solder comfortably. There are a few cables in the way. I unpluged a couple that look safe and easy to unplug. But there is a thik red cable that goes from the board to the tube that I wish I could unplug, but I saw no obvioius/easy way to unplug it.

Is there a trick to unplugging this cable? This cable attaches to the CRT at the top with what appears like a sucktion cup, but it is not. Is it easier to unplug from the CRT or from the board? I pulled from the board but it did not come out easily. Was afraid to break something. let me know if you have advise for this.

thank you!

If you unplug the cables going to the front panel and speakers, you should have enough slack to slide the board out and tip it up to gain access to the botton to unsolder the IC. The IC should be an LA7837 or someting close to that (this is from memory). Check the solder joints as bad ones could cause the vertical problem as well.

Don't ya just love people who don't read earlier parts of a thread.

To reiterate for "guest Feb 05, 7:05am Dan" info (TDA8172):

Thanks for the help. I'll try with the slack I have. I take it from this thread that it is best not to unplug the thick red cable that goes to the CRT (with the anode cap on one side) and just try to get as much slack as possible by removing other cables. I was hoping to remove that red cable to have more room to work with.

I'll give it a shot once the part arrives in the mail.
