I replaced Q601 and Q602 also R607 on G Board
Changed Q501 and removed and resoldered T501 on
A board.
As soon as I plugged the KV-35V36 in and tried to turn it on.
Q601 and Q602 also R607 all blown again.
Q501 is OK and T501 connections are solid.

Number one: How many threads now about this? Three, i think.
Number two: Are we still dealing with the wrong board in the wrong set?
Quote: | I picked up a Sony Trinitron KV-35V36 and tried to
salvage the G board power supply for my KV-34SL40
but the board is slightly different with an extra connector CN603.
I attempted to repair it in case my 34SL40 was not repairable.
However after replacing Q601 and Q602 (they were shorted)
The power button on the top of this TV does nothing.
Any direction on this would be appreciated.
Thanks

Number three: Are we installing correct part numbers?
Number four: what about VDR and caps that explode? |

I have a Sony KV-35v36. Power board had the 2sc4834 regs shorted and resistor R607. HOT was blown also. Changed regs, hot, resistor and C609 and C610 which were .47uf/50v caps and C611 and C612 which were .22uf/50v caps. Resoldered HOT transformer as usual and checked VDR601 which had no resistance. Set played two days and then blew C609 and C610 the .47 caps along with regs and resistor, but not the HOT.
I used generic regs as I have for years with no problem. Original sony caps were used. So what gives?
Last week had a KV-32ts36 which had the blown HOT and reg problem.
Replaced regs, HOT, rsitor, and original Sony VDR (3 of them). Set played 2 days and blew all to hell. All four .22 caps were blown. First time that has ever happened and I fixed hundreds of these with no after service recalls.
refixed with generic regs, hot, resistor and Sony original .22 caps. Set seems ok. crossing my fingers.
What am I missing on this KV-35v36? Bad parts? I've been using generics for years and never had a problem, buy most parts from Tritronics and never had a bad run.

I always check the power supply before I apply full power . fulton gave me some sony service news that may help you .I can fax them to you .also,I only
use generics with a "p" on them "m" and "N" always seem to fail after a couple of days. there are some other parts in the power supply which you should look at.d605 ,d603. larryM

Take the black VDR out of circuit and measure with a high ohmic value meter. Should not even read meg ohms. If if is truly open, reinstall. Always resolder the horizontal driver transformer. this is overlooked alot. you may need to replace the little transformer by the black VDR. There is a 6.8 ohm resistor by the black VDR make sure it is not opened. Replace the 160 volt 33mf electrolytic by the yoke plug also. It is out of tolerance.

I always use EXACT Repl's on Sony's. I order by p/n from Fox or Herman.
Haven't had a callback------YET.

I've been using the kits from electronix for about a year now with
no problems paying 9.00 for the kit sure beats sony's prices,
I rarely have more problems after replacing kit & resoldering driver
transformer, if it doesn't hold up just shotgun that circuit and be done with it :vdr601,vdr602,vdr603,c609,c610,c611,c612,c625,d603, & d605,r644
& like Sweep said some cases t603 or t605 may be damaged.

All parts are correct Sony parts on this KV-35V36.
Right boards in the right set.
The G board replaced Q602 and Q603 2SC4834MNP
and R607 0.1k 1/2w
On A board replaced Q501 HO transistor 2SC3209 and
resoldered HO tansformer T501 .
No VDR's on this set that was another set that is fixed.
No bad caps on this set.
I will need another kit .
I was in too much of a hurry to turn it on.
I saw the bad solder joints on T501 and thought that was it.
Thanks

Try Q502 horizontal output transistor 2SC5148 not Q501. Collector emmitter should read shorted but I'm guessing so is it all. |

I agree with Minnie on Horizontal Output transistor being: 2SC5148; Q502 (Q501 is indeed a 2SC3209, but its function is Horizontal DRIVER, not OUTPUT).
I DON'T agree with Minnie that Q502 (Horizontal output) collector to emitter should read shorted, that would put 135 volt B-Plus to ground (Base to emitter should read nearly zero).
R607 .1 OHM Fusible (NOT .1K [?100 ohm?])
According to Howard W. Sams #4755, there is a Varistor VDR601 1-810-974-21. |
