Hi everyone,

I have a Xerox document centre 230ST that I need help with. I tried some copier technician forum but it has not been very much help at all. This is a copy and paste from my post there...

I recently acquired a Document Centre 230ST with four trays and the high capacity portion on the side. Upon setting it up, the copier reads "Not Ready To Copy". I found a workup of common problems with these models at http://www.partsdrop.com/techinfo/enx_DC220cop1.pdf and have followed the directions outlined to no avail. The copier is NOT throwing any codes at all, it just is telling me it's not ready to copy. Upon entering diagnostics, User Interface (UI) is the only software level displayed. The link I gave said that it is a communications problem if that's the case.. The issue is I don't know where the communications problem comes into play. It displays the UI software as 20.4X. It displays nothing for DC, MF, and IIT...and for ESS, G3, HCF, and DSS it reads not installed. I don't have any software with the copier. Ah, also, it seems to think all the tray doors are open when they are clearly not open. When I choose an individual tray to print from, it tells me to close that tray. I've opened and closed them all, taken them out, checked for obvious problems...nothing. I could really use some help here if anyone has the time to take this issue on. I would be greatly appreciative and thanks in advance to anyone who may know what to do.

Thanks all!

No replies on this yet but I discovered some info that may help...

I was working on this thing again today and noticed something I had not noticed before...

If you look towards the bottom left of this picture, you will see a burned out chip that is marked C4 on the board. I am not sure what this is or what it controls. Is it possible that this is the cause of my problems? Could this be why the copier thinks all the trays are open when they are not?

Any suggestions or help that could be given from here would be VERY appreciated-can this be fixed or do I need to find a new board? WHERE can one find a new board if that's the route I need to take?

Your best bet would be to call in a copier technician. Even if you do find and replace the board, the board could be just the beginning of your problems.
As this printer is relatively new, getting parts shouldn't be too much of a problem. You will not be able to replace the single chip C4, you will need to replace the entire board. And seeing the board laying flat on this surface, it doesn't look like you've taken proper ESD procedures handling it.
There are some things better left to a professional to repair.
